I know life wasn't meant to be easy, but.
I'm still having grief with my boot lock.
I lost my car keys, and have replaced all except the boot lock key.
My lock has no numbers stamped on it. So, I took it to the local locksmith to rekey it to the door key. All he succeeded in doing was breaking the locking mechanism inside somehow. I found a key today that fits, but it won't lock now.:x
So, I went and bought another S/H lock today, it has no key and it is locked. Number is illegible due to rust but I can see `14'. I dunno if it's 714, 814, or 914.....?
I cannot get it apart, because it is locked, the pin is engaged in the bezel slot. Catch 22....

I've just put an ad in wanted, otherwise I guess to buy a new one from Somerford Mini is the easiest way out. :roll:

My boot lock has never worked - key will turn, but the boot won't lock. Luckily nobody has stolen my battery yet.

Has anybody taken one apart before?

@ Irish - OK, bear with me, 'cos I am testing my memory here, but my tired brain cells say;
There are two square pins. One is moved when the barrel turns & allows the whole lock & handle to turn when it is central, & the other holds the barrel in place to stop it falling out of the handle. You need to tap out the holding one. If you tap the wrong one out you shear off a tiny round lug from the bottom of the barrel & then it's a real pain to try to fix it. If you do that then it's probably best to get a new barrel. When I did exactly that, I drilled out under the lug, tapped the hole & put a tiny threaded rod in there to replace the lug. I never want to have to do that again!
Once you get the barrel out, you can remove something (Probably a circlip or two) to be able to get the pins out of the slots which hold them. The pins are flat spring-loaded things. You can shuffle them around to hopefully fit the key you have, as I don't think there were too many variations. If you can't fit the key, then just put in the pins that do fit the key, & leave out the rest. It will then be easier to pick, but it will still work as normal & you won't be able to tell from the outside. It will work normally with even just one pin.
I hope this makes sense to you! :) Good luck!

I've decided to save all the aggro and buy a new one from Lindsay, as they are not that dear. :lol:
Only 1/3 of what the new battery in the boot is worth. :wink:

Thanks Slugman, I'll give it a go. It's been something I've been meaning to do for years but never got around to it - you may have just saved me breaking it though!

No worries! (To both of you) :)
I hadn't locked my boot in years either, & only got around to fixing the lock a few months ago after replacing the door locks with Solex ones.

New lock and keys arrived from Lindsay today, it looks UK made (isn't sloppy and has UK keys). :)
$47 + post, it would cost more than that from UK, probably. Somerford's list price was 25 quid, + freight.
