This lad has just purchased This GT, and now is trying to flog off the shell minus the original motor. It just really irritates me he is separating the car and the motor because he wants to build some try-hard race motor. Just buy a motor... There are enough minis running around without the correct motor, never the less something special...... Here is his current Ebay ad. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Morris-Mini- ... 3ce379bda6 Here is the Listing from a few weeks ago: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1972-Leyland ... 7675.l2557 Im just Really Annoyed by people doing this stuff..... |

I do agree. It is his to do what ever he wants, but I would like nothing more than to have the original engine for my GT. Oh well, each to there own. |

It is pretty sad - few enough GTs as is - never mind correct engine. I was outbid on this and thought glad to see go for a decent price - and presumed home..... without that motor the value drops considerably......... ( and I hope the Police GT that appeared briefly has gone to a better home... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221455591415?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 again bidding on this while trying to get more info .... when it disappeared from eBay..... ) |

Just to clarify, he thinks a GT clubman is worth $10k without running gear? |

Where else do you get a cooper s engine to rebadge your deluxe at such a cheap price (once he sells the shell). Racing or not he payed the folding and you took it. If he was truly able to build a race car then he'd be best to pull the engine for that and stick a 1098 back in. A runner is worth so much more then a garden ornament. |

It sounds like you're endorsing this practice. ![]() For me it's a shame that people do this to original rarer vehicles, and the reason why genuine very original vehicles command such high prices. In the past Cooper S's etc seemed plentiful, and only really soughtafter and parted out for their faster motors, better brakes, etc. Certainly not plentiful anymore, not excusable IMHO. |

The seller frequents this forum... so just be warned... but this happens often. I might grab a packet of chips and sit back and watch this unfold! |

He might not know how bad* what he is doing is. As a good example, some silly guy bought a Mini Sunshine as a rolling shell without an engine, then crammed a Honda B18C Type-R in the front, doing all sorts of terrible things to get it to fit. Is a 200Hp Sunshine a travesty? Yes. Would I do it again if I had known? No, I would have kept it original & found another basic Leyland S shell, which is what I thought it was. That's just one of those 'put it down to experience' things. * By "bad", I mean bad for his hip pocket as well as bad for the whole mini community, since we should conserve the rare minis we still have. |

Guys he does offer the engine to be negotiated with the sale. Any serious restorer who cares about the originality would no doubt attempt to keep the 2 together. |

I still may restore the 71 down the track if I feel its worth it but not at this stage other projects before this one |

According to the first ebay ad when the current owner bought the car the then owner said that the motor in the car was not the original however the car would come with the original GT block. For me the value of a GT is massively reduced if it does not come with the original motor. 1275 motors suitable for building into race engines are not that expensive probably $2000 or less. I think the owner would be better off to sell the car complete and buy another motor. GTs are rare because they didn't build many but they are also rare because mini enthusiasts of the 70's, 80's and 90's raced them in speedway, fitted flip fronts and raped them for their parts to build fake cooper S's, fortunately this guy just wants the motor. Hopefully the current owner will realise that a matching numbers GT should be kept complete and preserved. |

I sold a deluxe with matching numbers engine to a guy on here planning to do it up into something special. I hope he kept the original engine in case he ever wants to take it back to original. End of the day it's his car he can do what he likes, regardless of what anyone else says. Now I wish Id kept it and sold my current mini |

Now I wish Id kept it and sold my current mini And that's the reason I have an 850 power unit taking up space in my shed. So if I ever sell the 850 the new owner will have the option of putting it back to original. I do hate that it is taking up that space for probably the next 20 years though... |
