I was given a pair of 1 3/4 su carbies from my boss. They look like they came off a Triumph or something. Would one of these be suitable for my 1330 or should I look for another one? I have a GR manifold on the way and would like to get it sorted out (clearance to firewall) soon so I can paint.



They appear to have a different looking needle bit on the bottom that moves with the choke. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

One of those would work.
The jet is a waxstat type which incorporates a thermostat in it to change the jet to compensate for changes in fuel temp.
You can bin the waxstat and fit a regular jet to make things simple.
They also have a little spring loaded valve in the butterfly to reduce emissions on when you lift off. You can fit a regular butterfly as well.

Yes a pair is probably a little over the top for a 1330 for the road. Single are great on their own.

The pair can always been sold against a pair of twin 1.5s or 1.25s.

I love the twin 1.5s on my 1310.

If I buy a rebuild kit, would that have enough to change the waxstat over or would I need to order some more specific parts? Where do you suggest I can get some parts for it?

The waxstat linkages to the choke are different to the normal static jet, but saying that they can be modified to suit, at least on the 1.5s they can, and they look the same.

I bought a new linkage however for the 1.5s each. It was really cheap so I thought why not.

For the 1.5s I just went straight to Minispares as they have it all.

SU Midel in Sydney can't be underestimated as well.

I also bought the parts to make the needle solid instead of swinging from SU Midel.

HS6 are a good carby, are even better if you machine the inlet bore out a bit and radius the entry.
A 1360 with stock unported Mk2S head & valves, single HS6 on a Minispares manifold, RE13 cam and Corolla 1.46:1 rockers recently made 107.5HP @ 6500 on GR's engine dyno. GR modded the carb as I mentioned here.
HP was the same both with and without a Ramflo air filter + Unifilter foam pad.

That sounds great. I am going to send my head to GR for some work. Sounds like it wont be to difficult to reach my target. I would like to reach 100hp and 100 torque. What needle and spring would you suggest as a starting point?

On a Minispares manifold, we used a KV. Tried an OA6 but it was too lean, but one of those worked on my 1412 stroker years ago with a GR 7" manifold.
Use a red spring, yellow is too heavy.

I run an OA6 needle in a single 1.75 SU with a GR manifold on my 1360. Seems quite good.
In my youth I ran twin 1.75 on a 1330 no probs at all.

I would have considered twins if it was a big stroker of something but single will be fine. Run the OA6 to begin with and then see how it runs from there.
TK, did you have any clearance issues on your car?
