I understand that with the demise of the Morris Cooper (Not S) in 1965 and with the release of the Morris mini Deluxe, there were several factory 'hot up' options available for those that didn't want to go to the full Cooper S.

Can anybody elaborate further on these?? I have heard some of these were motor changes....

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Minimad

There were "hot up" kits available from the dealers for almost the whole BMC range (from the Morris 850 to the Wolseley 24/80.)
Twin carbs, worked head and a modified exhaust was the usual thing.

I ask because I have a deluxe and would like to do some period mods.. Those that you listed would be great and I have most of those bits already but I was hoping someone might have these on their car or have a document that shows what was available at the time.

I eventually want to show the car and don't want to modify beyond what would have been dealer fitted and would like some documentation to prove I haven't gone too far.

Thanks
Minimad

Maybe fit some twin su's on a Manton, Monaro Motors, Hi-toque or similar manifold - these are period bits. Maybe a centre exhaust and some extractors to suit. As Morris1100 said these were the basic performance kits. Most of the other stuff fitted by the dealers were accessories like mudflaps, turbo hubcaps, venetians, sunshades etc....

I would imagine most parts that would have been available via the dealer would have been from the special tuning catalogue. If the parts were available from the factory it is likely this is what would have been on offer. I have a few different versions of the catalogue that was available in the 60s. I can photo one from 65 for you and send a copy to an email unless other people are interested and want me to post it on here.

I found this in an article in the BMC experience

"BMC Australia’s Sales Director, Lindsay Shimmin, had no less than 21 new or improved features to market the De Luxe. Some were drawn from the success of the Morris Cooper, including the slatted grille, seat pattern and the (de-tuned) 998cc engine, with single HS2 1.25” SU carburettor. Although maximum power was only up by 4 bhp, at 38 bhp, torque was significantly better, with 52 lb.ft as opposed to 44 lb.ft. This was compared to the 998cc Cooper with 55 bhp and 57 lb.ft.

In one BMC Parts & Accessories Division monthly News Letter, to BMC parts managers, a ‘Morris Mini De Luxe YD05 - Hot-up kit’ was announced, with four ‘Stage’ levels. The writing was on the wall for the Cooper, not surprisingly when the still secret launch of the Cooper S was just a few months away."

Any info on these would be good.... :)

I remember the twin carb kits BMC sold for the 850 and M1100, they used 2x LH bowl (ie stock 850 & Deluxe) HS2s on a Warneford alloy manifold & sports filters.
Carb throttles were joined by a bit of steel rod and W clamps. Choke was operational on 1 carb only.
I had a set back then on my first 850. :)

Your correct, I remembered I have one of those as well but it is pretty big. It has things like "fish tail exhaust tip" and picnic baskets in it. Worth a laugh. Will photo some of the random stuff in it and post that too. They are on the bookshelf in the workshop.....and its cold outside so you guys will have to wait till tomorrow.

If you are interested in that sort of thing then copies of period Australian Car Magazines such as Wheels, Modern Motor, Sports Car World are full of hot up options, ads, kits and articles on this sort of thing.

....Unless you are only looking at the BMC approved items.
