What would a 160 KMH Black speedo be out of? I had never sen one before and I can't seem to find a picture of one on any websites.

997, 998 Cooper (and 1071S?) normally had a 100mph speedo, so it's probably for a European delivered one of those.

I have had 2 different Moke ones, both only went to 140KMH... (equivalent to 90MPH)...

You are 100% correct, some Moke's were fitted with 160 KPH speedos but the face was dark grey not jet black,
and they did had a silver or black painted surround instead of chrome.

I have a NOS 160kph speedo. It is for a Euro spec Cooper.

EDIT; Black face.

Just for interest does your speedo have the MPH numbers in the centre, also are you able to see the revs per Kph or Mph numbers.I would be very keen to know what they.
Best Regards
John

Hiya,

Yes John,

The ones I had were dark grey rather than black.

If I can find a pic I'll post it up.

Cheers Jon

John, It does say MPH in the centre and around the KPH outside it has the place for when to change gears. Acually this thing is marked to 160kph but the dial goes to 170kph.

If it has a grey face it's probably an Australian manufactured item.

Out of interest, the Moke parts fiche for big-wheeled Mokes shows KMH speedo part number AYK9699 up to vehicle 018FOB1M09/16696, then part AYK9825 for car 16697 onward.

One on the left looks like the Australian produced style and the one on the right looks like the later UK style.

I agree with You and Doug, the one on the left is Australian made type,
note the rim is silver painted

1275 mk1 s speedo is a 130 mph speedo but the numbers only go to 120 mph.
1071 S speedo is a 120 mph speedo that does not go to 130 otherwise it is the same as a mk1 1275 S speedo.
Photo below of 1071 speedo
