I've got a set of carpets here (sans front footwell) and amongst them I have an odd piece.

The carpet matches the rest for tailoring and material, and appears to be the same age. However I can't pick where its from, or if its a partial from another set.

The original piece is this, and below is another image from some years ago of a complete set. I can't see where this might fit into it all...

Mystery Piece:

The bit at the bottom of the photo looks as though it is the bit that goes behind the heater. You can see the two vertical slits for the heater brackets.

Edit: ok I re-read the post and the bottom photo is a different set.

So It does look like it goes on the vertical and the hole is for the high/low beam switch. So I agree with Brett

Mick,
Looks to me to be a piece cut for the front parcel shelf, under speedo binnacle.
It has the hole front and centre for the main wiring harness.
Not a factory piece.
Perhaps Not!!
Dave

Yeah, I have original red Westminster in my car and I bid on that set too to have some spare pieces.

I was the same, I couldn't work out what that piece was.

It's probably an odd piece from another model.

We had a 1955 series 2 Morris Oxford and it had the same style carpet so it had been used for years by BMC.

Ok. Its been sitting aside with the previous owner since 1990, when he picked it up as a set himself.

WHat other cars do people know of where the westminster was used? Was it the Vandenplas variants? What about the Mini Supers in the UK?

Does the odd piece still have made in Australia on the back?

I think even back in the early days of Zetland the trim and carpet was still local.

I've not seen a made in australia mark on the westminsters before, although I've seen the westminster logo quite often. It seems to last better than the carpet itself...

I'll check again once home.

John is correct (when isn't he?).

This is part HYA6294, Toeboard Carpet (Westminster) for the Austin 1800.

Mine has made in Australia although as you can see it must have only been only printed every meter or so.

Ok, I see now. I have had a look and found this also.

I was lead to believe the carpet was produced between dutch goat hair (yes! Goat hair!) and Irish textile factories. I wonder if the local content was the tailoring of the carpet into the set while the production remained overseas?? I've never seen anything to define the carpet as being produced here?
