No listing on the 40819J, but one of my books says 40819B was early Mk1, and 40819H was late.
Are you sure the J is not a badly stamped B??

It should have the month and year stamped on it as well which may give a clue to what it may have been fitted to.
Not all MK1 S cars had the 40819H distributor as drmini says.
The 40819B was used with the original AEG148 cam (used up to engine No 9FSaY 40006 IIRC) and the 40819H was used with the later AEG510 cam. There is only a minor difference in the advance curve at low rpm. The 40819H has about 2 deg more advance at low rpm but the tolerances are such that the advance curves overlap any way.
