Stripping the car back to shell. (I will start a post on that soon) I assume I need to get the wiper assembly completely out. Do I need to undo the small nuts (as shown on picture 4) on the wheelbox assemblies to get them both out ie. remove the wheelbox to wheelbox outer cable from the assembly first and then they will drop down and out? It looks like it in the manual. I may have answered my own question but thought best to ask before breaking something or doing something unnecessarily. Cheers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

If you loosen the bolts they will spin on the shaft. That will make it abit easier. But I am pretty sure if you hold your tongue the right way and bend those little tabs out of the way it is posible without loosening the nuts. |

Its never very easy, and they will bind on the holes as it comes out. There's a knack to it I am sure, but they don't just go in and out without a little bit of rough house being applied. |

From memory, just loosen the nuts, but turn the black plastic spacer around 180 degrees on the shaft and give it all a bit of a jiggle. |

Thanks again, got it out by turning the spacers around and pushing wiring loom metal lugs up and a bit of manoeuvring. Didn't have to undo any nuts to disassemble. Cheers. |

Its a good idea to fully strip them and clean while they are out. Clean the tubes really good. Apply some white lithium grease on reassembly. Rodney |

Obviously you have more patience than me. I had to hammer mine out as it got stuck half in half out. Disaster! Was easier on passenger side, apart from the nut splitting. Thankfully they came back in stock before I sent off my minispares order! |

Yes, came out as one whole assembly, passenger side first (not sure if that matters). I didn't have to undo the sections as I first thought. Now it is out I will clean and grease as you have suggested boomini. Thanks again. |

I'm attempting the same job at the mo. The manual says to remove cable from motor but doesn't say how. Do I have to take motor casing apart to do this? Eiles |

Yes you do eiles. Undu the nut on the tube at the wiper motor. Then undo the cover on the wiper motor. Once you have that off you will see how to get the cable off. |

The little aluminium spline on the end (part that goes into the blades) will pry off with gentle force from a flat screwdriver. This will give you more room. |

Why not just undo flare nut and pull cable out? I suppose there's as many methods as there is mechanics. Another thing to check is wear on the little pivot gears and in the tube itself, at the bend near motor. Worn bits make them noise and floppy, and no one likes floppy bits. Wipers on Minis are just for registration purposes, the car will probably cut out about 30 seconds after the rain starts. ![]() |

All good advice above...cleaning & lubricating is most important...if you happen to kink the tube(s) for the long worm gear, replacement(s) can be fashioned from 5/16" OD fuel line flared at the ends for the wheel boxes. Same fuel line can be used to make replacement sleeves for the quarter window tensioners.... |
