Hi guys and girls I'm looking at removing my two front guards on my 1977 Ls mini is there a site or instructions on how to do this at all? I have pretty much got the car striped

They're spot welded on in a lot of places. Why do you want to remove them?

Both gaurds have heaps of bog in them and have been repaired before so am thinking it would be easier to just take them of and put the two new ones on that I have got

There are heaps of spot welds along all the joins. Buy a good spot weld drill and start drilling. You will have to remove the front seam cover to access those spot welds.

All the flat edges on your new guards will be where the spot welds are. When you drill the spot welds, avoid going to deep. You only want to go through the first skin. I think with a clubby you might need the headlight panel as well, not 100% though. I've only done round nose guards.

To remove a bad panel cut the panel off with a cutting disc close to the welds and then trim the spot welds off with a grinder.

Which size of spot weld drill bit would be the best for the welds on minis? 8mm?

Its off! Looks good.

I've used spot weld drill bits, and while they're not bad, they don't always get all the weld area, so leave a little hanging. You also tend to go through to the next panel a little too easily, but they're great in places where you can't get a grinder.

I'm not sure what size it would be I think it was 6mm drill bit

sorry for the off-topic and if others get on the bandwagon, but I can't imagine going to that much effort and not pulling the subframes out and doing the engine bay and underside as well

I use a spot weld drill that has a step on it. When you drill through the first skin, the step starts to cut. When you see this you stop drilling as you know the depth should be enough. Wurth sell them I think. I got mine from Forch #55151075 is the product code. Really good spot weld drill.

I was thinking of doing the front subframe as well but need to wait till I have moved house as I'm running out of space to put stuff plus still need to cut out the rust holes
