Post subject:  Your opinion on under side of Clubman
Hi
I am doing up a 1971 clubman and about to finish the under side… can i get opinions on whether it should be black textured of painted the same colour as the car
I have used a motospray sound deadener at the moment but opinions would be appreciated

The direction you go from here is really up to you, it's your project, so you build it the way you want.
If you intend on selling the car once its complete then maybe a general opinion would suit you, then you need to consider whether the car will serve the purpose of a daily driver.... then keeping it black body deadener would best suit, or a show car that is garaged a lot.... then you could jazz it up by painting it the body colour.

my thinking is to keep the car as a hobby and not a daily drive…. I'm trying to keep it looking as original as possible but not a show car if that makes sense.!
i believe minis came out with the underside painted the same as the car or were they black? it looks good now just want it to look right though

Yep, that makes it a lot clearer in regards to the direction you intend on going.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but the underside was the same colour as the body work, so in your instance of going for the "original" look then that's the way to go.
I hope you have a thread going for your build :)

Underside of my 76 is black textured paint. BUT - it has been resprayed at some point in its life.

You can see from the video (from 5:20) that the spray guns didn't really go under, but they did get the arches. The sills had a good solid coat as well.

With the volume that comes from those spray guns, there was a lot of over spray on the underside.

bloody hell… powerful gun!!
the car came with the underside black texture so thats what i have done again
after looking at quite a few pictures on line tonight there does not seem to be any real answer, it seems about 50/50
it looks good textured black but just trying not to stray to far

I did mine a bit different. Have a look at my build thread, you might get some ideas, although you already have the stone guard on. My under carriage has been done for nearly two years now and still looks as good as the day it was first put on.

There was a big push in the 70s and 80s for cars to have after-market "Underbody Protection"....your car might have been assaulted in this way.
