The only markings mine has is "PAT PENDING 2.3711/62" it just seems to large/long to fit :? .

Min K had the heater unit in the engine bay, but thats too late by your date. So I'm a little confused as to which heater you are trying to fit. The early 997 Coopers had a heater fan underneath the bonnet, with the heater matrix inside the cabin like in the photos in this link.

Hey Mick it is not that type, it dose not have a fan just a rectangular box with a matrix in it.

This link shows the deluxe heater http://bmcexperience.com.au/issue-2/mini-deluxe.html.
The under bonnet pic shows the location.

Mine currently hits on the bonnet stay and the clutch cover. Hopefully it's just a matter of wiggling it in to fit.

I had to bend the bonnet stay to fit. And mine is a Matic with this heater fitted stock.
Early heaters had 3 bolts, later ones had 2 at top and a Moke style bonnet V rubber at bottom that sat over a wide |_| bolt.

None of these heaters had a fan so they did FA heating when stopped in traffic.

I put a 3" Attwood bilge blower in the ducting of mine, noisy but it works.

I cut the 2 legs off it.
