| Post subject: | Engine steady bushes |
I purchased some genuine engine steady bushes from Minispares thinking they would fit my clutch end engine steady? http://www.minispares.com/product/Class ... o%20search They appear to be to long? Or is this how they should be? And then compress them on fitment? I guess I could try and trim them down? Or does someone sell the correct size?

Squish em up. They're fine. Squishing them in will force the rubbers into the stabilizer journal a little harder and hold the engine firmly. |

I only use the rubber ones and they have all been like that, they last ages where poly bushes flog out, a bit of rubber grease or silicone oil will help fitting them into the brackets. |

The one i pulled out were shorter but dont know if they were the original ones from factory but it was good fun getting these over sized ones in Boil the kettle and the boiling water will soften them up |

My standard 1000 will shag a set of poly bushes in a year or less. I'm using up the ones I keep finding lurking on the shelf, but will only buy rubber from now on. I guess a second top steady would help..... |

I trimmed the rubbers on mine. when I tightened the master cylinder mounting plate it pushed and cracked the bottom engine mounting plate which holds the brake and clutch hose. |

When you get yours in Hanra , slip around to my place and put mine in will ya , i gotta go to work ,  .i've just bought new rubber bushes for mine , and they are the same as yours , done away with the Poly , which were hard as and cracked . |

This is how they all are. Get 2 big flat washers, place one on each end, put the bolt through and tighten the nut until the rubber compresses the width of the steady. Leave this overnight. Next day quickly undo it and shove it into the slot using some rubber grease and/or 4 letter expletives. There is another way, get some flat metal sheets, cut 2 sheets out roughly the size of the rubber place them on both sides of the rubber to use as "guides" or "funnels" to squeeze the rubber as you push it into the steady bracket. Both ways will mean using 4 letter words and end in blood letting... Don't forget the spacer inside the rubber... |

These modern rubbers while better than urethane bushes, are still not the best. These are the 21A1882 lower arm bushes, and are about 5 years old. There are new versions of the same bushes on the left for comparison.
