Post subject:  Thought I'd Introduce myself - At least check out the video!

G'day everyone.

I've not yet properly introduced myself to the ausmini universe so I thought now'd be a better time than ever. My name is joe.

I currently am on my first mini, not the first car though. It's a 1976 Leyland mini. I bought it for $2900 off a lady in Hobby's Yards in NSW and put it on a truck to my parents place in Brissy. I tried to sort out the brakes (biggest issue at the time) but couldn't really get my head around it in the short time I had leave from work. Back to Canberra I went and I sent the car off to be RWC'd by someone who knew what they were doing. I loved and still do love working on old cars. It's so logical and mostly easy to understand. I really love how inspiring it is and working with my mates on their cars and teaching them is just as satisfying. I haven't done a lot to the mini since I've had it. Done the stock standard replacement of the coolant system and alternator. Bit of rust treatment which isn't really complete. But for the time being I'll just say that it gives the car a bit of character.

I recently made the ambitious road trip from Brisbane to Canberra in the mini. I didn't go the conventional way down the M1 thank god. I took 5 days to go with one of my best mates down a more scenic route through central NSW. It was fantastic. Swag in the back, a couple of beers and plenty of oil for the mini and it went almost seemlessly. The starter motor died on the second day which was pretty funny and I lost all brake pressure at Rylstone but luckily I wasn't too far from a mechanic. To quote Russel Coight, I really did meet some pretty special people in some pretty special places. The drive itself was awesome. Very scenic and never boring. I considered myself extremely lucky to actually be driving the car when we got to Canberra (compared to arriving on the back of a tow truck).

Anyway, I'll let the video I made up for the trip do the talking. You guys will love it. PS, ignorance is bliss and I don't remember ever nicking the double lines... Woops.

Also! I am into photography! So if anyone in the Canberra region would ever like a couple of snaps of their mini, don't hesitate to shoot a message my way!!! :D
Peace

Great video and great scenery! Good to see someone taking the scenic route instead of the freeway.
These cars were built for those sort of roads.

I love the flexible Aerial on the left indicating the speed by the lean. Great filming. Loved it.

Hobby's Yards huh. My Dad's family was all from out that way. I'm probably related to the people you bought it from, the place is that small. My uncle and cousins still live out there on a farm. Funniest time we had out there was the day we all went up for ANZAC day and had beers in the Trunkey Creek pub with two old fellahs one in his 80s the other in his 70s. The one in his 80s was "taking it easy" so he could drive the "young fellah" back home before returning to the pub for the rest of the afternoon.

Anyway great to see someone using the car like it was meant ot be used. welcome on board

cheers
michael
