Has anyone had a parts order over $1000AUD (up around $1500AUD) from the UK? I'm trying to find out what all the charges would be when landed here on $1500.

Thanks

I have found it to be a bit of a lottery? Seems to depend on who processes the package through customs as to how much you end up paying?
My last package that I did pay some amount on was 750GBP. and I was only charged $75 AUS? Which was customs fee and GST on the amount over $1000 AUS.
So good luck and if religious then also pray:)

I usually break it down into smaller orders to keep $ amounts down. Seems the heavy/ large orders attract attention

The Customs and border protection site is an absolute joke for trying to find this info but it is there.. eventually.

for autoparts from uk

Dutiable value include parts plus shipping costs

add 5% for customs duty from UK (if other imports or from different country ..do more reading)
add 10% GST .. on the whole figure

and then sometimes add a one off fee like an inspection fee $50-85 if agricultural etc requiring spray treatment possibly more

some retailers leave it to the courier company FEDEX etc to do all of this, they just fill in the form

So from above,
Spend $1000 on parts and freight in the UK, Australian Customs will charge 5% + 10% ($150) GST plus maybe a administrative fee ( I've not noticed one of these being added to my packages from the UK).

So for your 1000 dollar purchase, you will need to pay customs (or the freight forwarder acting on Customs behalf) about $150 before they will release your package for delivery.

Sometimes if you're lucky they charge you on the value of the parts and not the freight, but that's just chance.

I duno if this helps but i brought $2000 AUD worth of nos parts for a toyota ke70's (price included freight) out of the philippines and never got charged a cent on import tax, items included front gards, bonnet, bumppers, headlights etc. Not sure if i was ment to be charged or what the story was.

They don't always charge it. I've had a few orders over $1k and haven't been charged yet, I think it's a semi random inspection thing.

Thanks Mick, I'll work on your formula and keep my fingers crossed.

some parts are exempt from customs duty if they are fitted for a classic car yes. Make sure they put car details on the invoice
