Hi all i am currently trying to source gaskets etc.. and when i come up to the boot and door hinge gaskets. Karcraft had paper and rubber ones to choose from and i have no idea which one will be better in the long run. so i am hoping that someone has had previous experiences and could help me not to make any wrong decisions. cheers hayden |

The hard paper ones are the better one's in my opinion. The rubber one's tend to pop out the sides when bolts are tightened enough to hold hinge etc. |

Go to Supercrap and buy some gasket paper and a sharp scalpel. Cut your own and save big $$$$ |

Plastic, cut from an ice cream tub. The paper holds water, and the rubber shrinks, particularly now it is mostly all imported natural rubber from the far east. |

I can see it now at the supermarket "do you have any ice cream to colour match my Mini?" That's not as silly as it sounds given the gasket edges were painted at the factory, because the panels were hung prior to painting. Otherwise just use some body coloured paint on the gasket edges prior to assembly. Much better looking result. |

+1 On the Ice Cream container. As a bonus, you get to eat a tub of Ice cream! It's win win really. Cheers, Keels. |

Make sure it's a big tub though - you need long gaskets! And remember the hinges are all different, so don't mix them up. |

I used plastic ones years ago, I got them from Brikworx Adelaide when Steve was doing classic Minis. They have raised edges so the hinge sits inside them, really well made things. I put them on about 8 years ago and they are still as good as new plus it was an every day car for a few years. |
