Evening fellow Mini enthusiasts! I am the lucky owner of a MK2 Cooper S and am seeking a previous owner as I am looking to find the cars origin. I purchased the car 2002 from a young man living in High Wycombe with licence plate prefix 1AYF. I have been informed and seen the vehicle travelling up and down Greenmount Hill in the late 90's early 00's with personalised plates "BRICK". If anyone on this site knows this owner or is this owner can you please PM me. Thanks Chris |

Send a PM to John Sneddon with the chassis number. He's a Mini guru compiling a detailed list of Mini production in Oz and may know. |

You may have a typo somewhere. You say it's a MK II Cooper S but your signature says 1967. The first MK II was 1969. Some ID plate numbers will help. |

Thanks Marty will PM John. Winabbey - that is my problem no ID plate. The vehicle has a MK1 engine with MK2 stampings and is registered as a 1971 with the department of transport yet does not have burst proof door handles - which I was lead to believe that all 71's had? The vehicle has been in a front end accident at some stage - or so I believe as the radiator housing has no numbers stamped. When I purchased the car I was informed rightly or wrongly that the ID plate was with the previous owner - the one im seeking to verify. |

Just because it's been registered as a 1971 car at some point doesn't mean it was produced then. If it's a 1969 MkII S, numbers are stamped on the rad cowl and in the drip channel above the wiper motor. If it's been crunched and the rad cowl doesn't give away any numbers anymore, the drip channel might. But it could be full of paint, but you can usually tell on the underside if any things stamped there. Tell us if you find anything then the basic car number period will be able to be worked out. If it's a 1970 or 71 built MkII and the compliance plate has gone walking, then there should still be evidence on the drivers side angled brace for the pop rivet holes that once attached the plate. If it's a later half 1970 or 71 built car the body code & number is on the bulkhead near the master cylinder area. Tell us if you find anything there too. Of course the numbers are just part of identifying a genuine car. The engine number may help to identify where it fits into the sequence. Or even just the first 2 or 3 numbers. Assuming it hasn't been restamped. |

The engine in the car is not the engine on the rego papers. I have spoken to John and he has indicated that the body is a Oct 69 - if the numbers on the rego papers are correct ![]() |

This is getting more cryptic by the post. If you disclose ballpark info of features mentioned in my other post (relating to the car) we'll get to the bottom of the car quicker. I'm not saying it has, but it wouldn't be the first to assume 1969 identify for the sake of a missing compliance plate or built from a donor car to assume Cooper S status. These are cars that the term buyer beware exists for. |

Thanks for the offer Tartan, however I am sure it is a Cooper S MK2 as have already has numbers verified by 2 WA experts and John Sneddon on this site. This post is about me trying to source a previous owner of the vehicle. |
