Post subject:  Chrome Slinding Window Runners
Now I've got a decent little mig, its time for me to drag out the sliding window doors I've had sitting around for yonks waiting to be fitted to the 997 Cooper.

While I'm looking at that, I will need to source a little bit of hardware, namely the chrome sliding channels for the bottom of the glass.
I've heard there's problems with the new lower chrome runners, with alignment of the holes. Has anyone else had any dramas?

i used to have some spares but i ended up giving them away before i moved to the Netherlands. I got rid of a lot of stuff just so it did not have to be transported to and from. It's been hard to rebuild the stockpile.

I have used the ones from minispares with success a few times, once I had to trim them down but no big deal.

I have also fitted the stainless steel minispares ones.
Not impressed. I had to modify the profile of them so that the window catches would slide along them. They also did not have all the holes to latch the windows in different positions.
May be other suppliers have better manufactured ones.

Like Phil 850 I also had similar fitting issues. Would be much better to source some original runners and have them re chromed.

I sourced mine from the nice fellas at Karcraft in Sydney, although I think they're the same ones you can obtain from minispares.

I had a few issues fitting them to the chrome, nothing a hacksaw and some decent glue couldn't fix.

As for the holes matching up, some did, some didn't. But again, I made holes where applicable.

The most important thing for me was to make sure the water was going somewhere, as the previous owner made a dodgey job of the drivers side door. He had placed a stainless steel support underneath and didn't drill any holes!

Naturally, the water didn't go anywhere and rusted out the bottom support.

Has anyone used the ones from Heritage Garage or one of the other UK suppliers?
Are they all the same, or are some better quality?

How are they held in. Pop rivets or screws as mine were?

The pressed shape was not tight enough to allow the window catches to slide along. So I had to squash the whole length down a bit. PITA job but the end result looks good.
We're doing Ryalstone this weekend in my daughters 850 so you could have a look if your going.

Strangely the plastic catches that Minisport supply are an even worse fit in Minisports window runners :?
