Greetings All.

Couple years back I bought a Mini for trailer project or parts.
Long story short, got it running, took it for a run down the street and it goes like a rocket! Then saw it was built Oct '78.
Through a tarp over it. Too good to butcher.

Anyhow, reading through TME Index, it lists diffent models and numbers.
I can't see where this Mini sits. I realise it may be a last run of bits left over. The only production dates in Oct '78 are for the Leyland Mini LS? Am I reading this right?

What I can see:

On the firewall behind master cylinders.
16418
M2
22

On compliance Plate
XNHAB18Y/1048## (There is a XNFAB18/ for LS listed)
10/78

Engine
99H889AJH0029##

Its Squadron Blue. Has an "S" badge on grill, three cluster dash. Any ideas? Is it a Leyland S, LS or a "Clubman??

Cheers
Alex.

Sounds to me like a Leyland Mini S. We had one, built in September, 1978.

Thanks Doc.
Just had another look and it's got cream vynal seats with gold cloth in the middle parts. Must be a late "S"

TME Index may be a little off on production end dates.

Looks like It'l be project #3.

Cheers
Alex.

Compliance plates were fitted when shipped to dealer/sold, not when built.

DOC

Didn't know that. So there would be some C/P's with later months.

Thanks again

Alex

Hate to bump and old post, but in my search for the clubman grill refurb post I found this. They appear to be close cousins to my mini, 78' clubman - squad blue Built Sept 78 was classified as a 'S' by Greg at mini classic. I found this handy post on the vic mini club page - http://www.mini.org.au/mini_identification.html - for engine numbers and the like.

They didn't call them Clubmans after 1973.
That Vic Mini club list isn't very good, lots of errors in it. Probably more mistakes than facts.

Looks like your mini is very alike to mine.
In Scotland at present. Went to the IMM last week, and I'm all enthused to start the build on the Leyland.
They had a yellow Leyland S (Australian) on display. It was owned by a Scottish bloke.
Cheers
Alex

Chris.
How ya going? Small world. Didn't know you watch AusMini!

Got as far as Blairgowrie. Heading back south tomorrow. Got to get to Holly head ,for the ferry by Friday.
Yes, your Leland S is a fine example of the Australian build.
Cheers and hello to your fellow members. When I get back to Adelaide, I'm going to put "That" special sticker on my boot lid.
Cheers
Alex.

Hope you have a great time over there Alex, I might be getting over there next year. My fun at the moment is mainly in giving her a nice clean inside and out a few spots I will need looked at though. hope your build goes well when you start.
