I know it's against the rules to talk about for sale items and I will probably get into trouble for this but what the hell...

I just saw the ad in for sale and MAN that car is WOW. I don't normally start new threads or are there many cars that make me go wow, but this one is genuine WOW! talk about rare... If I had garage space I'd fly over there right now...

Matt, tell us more about it! You haven't ever talked about this gem much on Ausmini? It must have some historical significance surely...?

MODS and Matt: feel free to lock thread and ban me/slap me around the face for being naughty... I am prepared to be punished, worth it!

I am seriously tempted as well, but I already bought another mini a few months ago (actually I got Matt to pick it up for me).

It is priced well, a fair reduction on his first unenthusiastic sale listing:

I bought mine 6 years ago from Japan and it is nearly ready to go back onto the road and racetrack after a ground up rebuild.
From what I can ascertain there is Matts in QLD, one complete car in NSW, a shell in NSW my car and another shell in Victoria and possibly one more in SA? Then there are a few more Jems given that they made someJems in SA during the 60's.
They have an FIA homologation document and raced at Lemans, Kylami etc and certainly anyone who see's mine says what the hell is that. If you look really really really close you may see shades of a Ferrari 250 GTO  But to my mind they are ugly in the nicest possible way.

Me 3  , I'm always interested in oddball car stories.
I take it they were made by Marcos company in the UK (the name came from the 2 guys that built Marcos cars in the 60's & 70's, I think it was Jem Marsh & someone Costin, not sure if Costin paired up with Keith Duckworth to become Cosworth)

The normal Marcos was a very low car with either a Volvo  4cyl or a Ford V6 but their was something weird about it, maybe a wooden chassis

But the mini Marcos is something I would be keen to know more about, especially the ones in Aust..

Yes they are very low mine is 1200mm high there is no wood in the mini marcos. Front and rear mini sub frames and a Van tank. They have the mini front crossmember under the master cylinders and a couple of plates to mount the rear subframe. There is no steel in the middle so they can be a bit flexible.
Marcos Cars started in 1959 with the first car raced by Jem Marsh and a guy named Jackie Stewart.
The mini marcos came on stream in 1965 with Geoff Mabbs winning its first race. The road car was shown at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1966.
Two frenchmen drove one at lemans in 66 and finished 13th and last. Jem Marsh and Lawrence the designer of the deep sanderson drove one in 67 at lemans and were out after 80 laps with oil pump failure.Top speed was a shade over 140mph.

Wow, 140MPH with a 1960's motor....Imagine what it would do today with a turbo twinky!

I remember looking a Taylorspeed Jem a while back & I was under the impression it was 100 - 150 Kg lighter than a normal mini! The Marco must be similar.

i am sure matt will help the new owner to unlock the cars true potential. For me with the laid back seating with you pucker barely off the ground 140 mph is more than enough for me at this stage
