Howdy, All throughout my clubman on the inside where there are seams is what appears to be a rubbery goo that has been brushed on (pretty sloppy and thick in some places in the boot). I'm assuming this was put on in the factory to stop moisture getting thru. However, once I strip the inside back with my wire brush, what should I replace it with, if anything? Is it just sound deadener? Cheers, Linden |

Its the factory seam sealer. It prevents crap getting into the seam and rotting them out. definately put more back in if you remove it. |

Thanks sweep77 - but is "seam sealer" something I can buy? Can anyone recommend a product/brand that they have used with good results? Cheers, Linden |

I used Valvoline Tectyl years ago. Or, you can use fish oil- it penetrates in good, then sets (soft) outside to keep moisture out. I find it's better to brush it in from a can, not use the spray cans which are too thin and runny. Bit smelly, but it works though.

Bit smelly alright...give it a couple of days to air out 
The one in the pressure can is runny and will dribble for a while

So will it leave a coating similar to what is already there? Do I need to put it on as thick, or so "all over the place"? And is this ok just to etch prime over the top of? |

K&H still make a seam sealer.... Anyone who sells their products should have it or be able to get it for you. |
