Post subject:  Tyre Recommendation - 175/50 r13 on my 98 Cooper
Hey guys and gals. Will need some tires in the near future. Currently have dunlop 175/50 r13 on my 98 Cooper. Should I stick with these or get the Yokohama A539 r13's. I won't be racing or anything. Just want a good reliable tyre with good grip and reliability. Also I'm having trouble finding any of these tyres here in Oz. Can anyone point to we're to find a set at a good price?

Firestone no longer make Potenza's in 175/50/R13.
Try Stuckeys (on the Sydney road I think) they used to stock GY GranPrix 9000 in 195/45/R13. Same rolling radius.
They were not very cheap tho.
There were only a few remaining when I bought mine.
Couldn't find them anywhere else, even at so called GY Super Dealers. Some even said there was no such tyre!!

Yoko a539 tyres are excellent for their money in terms of life and grip- wet or dry.
A cheaper option would be nankang as1 tyres, though grip wouldnt be as good.

Minisport SA has Yoko A539 in 13", I think they bring them in from UK. I doubt you will find them sold at local tyre dealers now.

Sumitomo do a 175/50/13 HTR 200 made in Japan should be able to find them at a city discount tyres or Ian Diffen where you are

Never heard of this brand before, seems to be popular with the Japanese street cars, Datsuns/rx3 /corolla sprints etc in Japan. I've checked out the website and they do list the size. Now to find a dealer that will stock them. Anyone have any experience with the Sumitomo brand?
As I said in the original post, maybe a few months before I replace them, but will be good to know where to find them later. Can't believe how difficult tires are to find in 175/50r13

i am not sure if they still make them but i have aPirelli P6000 Drago 175/50/13 on my Other set of wheels and they are not too bad, not great now as they are old and hard but when they were on the car 10 years ago they were not too bad

Sumitomo owns Dunlop Tyres in Japan.

Got some sumitomo's 175/50r13 ordered at City Discount Tyres – Moorabbin. $125. each fitted and balanced
