hey i just thought i would post up some pics of a mini that had a problem lucky it was the last session of the day i got the photos becaus i was workn out there as a fire marshall 
the driver was ok the worst thing was that was his first time out in the car hope you enjoy the pics |

Surley that has to be a fault in the Rotor housing 
Not good...i'd take it back and ask for a refund

OMG... that would have made it a interesting first time out on the track 
would have scared the poo poo out of me

My guess is the CV broke, just outboard of the spline where it reduces for the thread. That would have caused the wheel/rotor to want to go elsewhere but was retained by the brake caliper until the rotor broke. He would have been on the brakes too, I would have been. Lucky fellow |

The mini looks relatively unscathed considering the adventure it's just had ............. What part of the track was it situated at? the end of a straight or twisty stuff?

It would have definately snapped at the CV first. Seen that a dozen times. Its a known weak point. Was obviously a good save to pull it up. I once saw Henry Draper's wheel come off in the same manner and bounce up and through his windscreen! HRS |

he was just about to go around the corner to go onto the back straight 
lucky it happened before he got on to the back straight that wouldnt be good going in to the hairpin at the end of the straight |

no worries 9ytatah - here's mine
his CV would have broken at some point before then, and the force of the caliper against the rotation of the wheel and the sideways movement from turning as he braked for the corner sheared the disk part of the rotor from the hub part, making his wheel take another direction. My wheel stayed on - only about 3/4 of a turn of the hub nut left... |
