The 286 is a lot better at idle ,and a lot milder for road use , depends though what you want to use it for . The 648 was a good race cam in its day , but there are a lot of better ones out there these days .Are you interested in selling the 648

731 is a very mild cam,,, 286 is a fairly tough race cam,,, so no,,, they are worlds apart,
but a 649 is also a race cam so no-where-near as smooth as a 731
731 is a baby in comparison

What Matt said. I think neither of those would suit what you are trying to achieve. You would be better off with something a little tamer than what you have and probably enjoy driving it more as well. Also a 731 isn't the best option either. Far better cams out there for a street car. Your cam choice should be dependant on your engine specs too. No point having a big cam if you don't have the bits to make use of it.

I'm running a GR 286 cam in my turbo motor with wide LCA's to suit and in all conditions it's great, can even do 60kph in top gear no cam hopping. I had a 731 in ages ago and it's aldi a great street cam sort of stage 1, 544 is like. Stage 2/3 and 648 is like a stage 4/5 in my eyes and 286 is like a 4 I guess.

As mentioned these days there are much better cams around, call GR @ Russell Engineering he is the cam/ mini God ;)

yes, Boosted is correct... engine "size" also plays a major part

a 544 or 140 in a small bore (998-1098) will be very lumpy,,, but the same cam in my 1510cc is tame & mild & almost smooth :-)

wide LCAs will tame the cam also, less overlap, less lumpy etc etc etc

no black art,,, just education about physics :-)

Perhaps a 276 may be better suited for this guy?
