Hi all I need a bit of advice here please. The mini has been harder to start lately and I have noticed that the choke is doing little more than operate the rev cam. It does nothing to make the main jet go down. The car has twin SU's but only one cable for the choke. My question is should it have two cables and if only one what adjustments do I need to make. Thanks |

It only needs one cable which it transmits to the passenger side carb. This carb then transmits through the linkage to the drivers side carb. Is that linkage across rotating? |

The Cooper and Cooper S have the cross shaft to run both chokes. The BMC hot-up accessory kits only hooked the choke to one carby. |

Does it begin to move as soon as you pull the choke out, or can you pull the choke out some way before the revs start to rise? The cable might have too much slack in it. |

can you move the jet yourself by hand up and down freely? I had a similar problem and it was that the jet adjusting that it slipped into was slightly bent! |

Jet could be stiff or jammed. Might be worth removing the carb that has the choke and have a good look at the whole mechanism. The normal movement would be... 1st half of choke = idle up only 2nd half of choke = more idle up + jet drop As Morris 1100 said if it's a aftermarket twin carb setup then it's normal for only one carb to run the choke to help with cold starts ....so it's important it works. |

A smear of grease on the cable and linkage works wonders too. ![]() |
