This was on polding st Wetherill park (near Makkas pl) the rules state a SPEED CAMERA IN USE sign has to be displayed up to 100m before the camera, even though they all place the sign after when its too late.
This chump had no sign at all and the flash was working overtime

And by law, Mr Plod isn't allowed to park on nature strips or footpaths.

Here in Vic, speed cameras are run by a private company that operates under Police control but they must also have a sign out 100mtrs before the camera (though I have yet to spot one) and if they don't, you can go to court over it.

Up here in Newcastle lately they've started 'hiding' again. Last weekend there was a sign on the side of the road but you couldn't see it until you were passing the cop

having a sign before a camera is ridiculous - the point should be that people shouldn't be speeding - put the cameras everywhere with no signs, on any type of car

don't give me the usual argument about having them at the bottom of hills etc.

So I guess you support revenue raising instead of the real issue of lack of driver training and education!
Get real I think your comments would place you within the minority in terms of this issue

okkher i saw a stupid one the other day

it was about 2:30, a minute past by me, in a 40 school zone that started at 230, and yep there was a police-camera-car-man sitting at the end of the zone looking up the short straight,, aiming at peoples halfway through the zone. and im sure he would have been getting a heaps of peoples, even if it was one minute into the time  BUT thats what the signs says, so i was alright

but gee theres a shocker up at home, the road i go to work on. this can be my whinge
they've just finished a 2-3 month roadworks job, Widened road by bout 2-3 metres, and removed about 2 dozen foot deep holes from the kay long straight road and sealed it, this being a rural road, speed limit 100.
but now they've finished the works, the decided oh lets play stupid buggers, lets not put the 60 END sign back up , lets just say 60. So they've spent 1,000's on the road, 2-3 metres wider, and now cut speed limit by 40 kays :? :? I assume its a mistake, but cant be sure :? :?: it says 60 but its just ridiculous,
and after the roadworks end sign they used to have the 100 sign , but now theyve finished they took that one, and now its 60 the entire 11 kays of that road, so if the police were aware of it, im sure they'd have a go, even though it is definately a mistake, it does only say 60
/SPAM

In Auckland, the cops have a double cab Holden Rodeo ute as a mufti car. Lord knows what other ones they use throughout the country.

They used to have signs for speed cameras, but not any more. Wellington's paper, the Dominion, ran a photo front page showing a cop lying down in the greenery in the middle of a median strip on the motorway.

Welcome to the New World Order.

Or you could do what I've done: Buy a Commer van which is incapable of breaking the speed limit....

Hey SKSSGN

What's more dangerous. A driver with 30 years driving experience driving in a new car with all safety features doing 65kmh in a 60 zone. Or green P plater in a beat up old gemini with Baldy tyres and crap brakes driving along with his stero blarring while texting his mate on his mobile phone doing 59 in a 60 zone? which one does the speed camera get? Which one would you want to appear from nowhere one night when you accidentally pull out of an intersection when your eyes have not noticed the car comming (or are you one of thos fantastic drivers who never does that).

I used to think like you do, with 20 years driving experinece that covers pre and post speed ameras we all know they dont work, they raise money.

Good see you KNOW the rules Gilly. For those that would like to know the real ones here goes.
1. for a VMSC (vehicle mounted speed camera) the "speed camera in use" sign is to be placed 50m on the departure side of the vehicle when working single direction. When working both directions the sign is to placed on the opposite side of the roadway directly opposite the vehicle. Did you look over there Gilly?
2. Police vehicles may parked on the footpath/nature strip for enforcement purposes. care should be taken so as not to obstruct pedestrains.

If you want to have a whinge because you think something is wrong make you sure you know what you are talking about first, then complain to the people that can change the problem. If this guy didn't have his signs out ring his boss and bitch to them.

Revenue raising: This argument is like the old chicken and the egg question. As I have some knowledge of the subject I would feel comfortable saying that I believe most RTA fixed speed cameras do not acheived there intended purpose. Since the inception of Police VMSC there has been a noticable reduction in the amount of general speeding offences and you could argue that has caused a reduction in accidents. Would better driver education help? Of course. Should speed enforcement be given up? No. If you were going to be hit by car would you rather it be one doing 50 or 60 or faster. If you are not sure what I mean try this. Walk into a brick wall. Just a stroll, but don't pull back make sure you hit the wall. It will hurt, but not much. Now give your self plenty of room then sprint at the wall. Again don't pull back, run into it. This one will really hurt you may even end up need good medical help, if you do it right. And you may learn that speed does increace your chances of injury.

I like to think of speed enforcement as toll collecting. Feel free to speed, we really can't stop you. But this freedom like many others does cost. If you choose to do it and you get stopped, don't bitch, pay your fee and get on with it. And when you do loose it, and you probably will even the best drivers do, hopfully you won't kill anyone.

My 20 cents. Sorry it was so long.
:x

geez that would be right a copper has to wade in thats unfair :D
....... next question how do you know if it is one way or two (i know this car see him allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the time and it is a both ways one he always has it oppisite him ) and to be honest i feel that persons like myself who are on the road alot more so things are bound to happen i have 3 points at the moment and i get the same standard 12 points what pisses me off is that i still only get twelve points and am on the road 10 times as long as any other driver and have to try and survive it and thommo dont get me wrong but when you get pulled up by the rta arseholes and they go over every little thing and fine you for spelling mistakes or putting a line in the wrong place same with hwy patrol some of them guys have only recently learned how to walk talk and eat ...... sorry just went off on a tangent :D
guy's it is a fact of life the police and the rta will do anything to make money from us cos they need the money (snigger) we all have seen the state of our roads ... the coppers need the cash to buy them tricked up ss's so they have to raise revenue ........ go sit down the highway and listen to channle 40 on the uhf for a fewe ours and listen to what happens to the drivers out there ...... oh crap i'm on a tangent again
makka
