Post subject:  WTB 21A1806 Hydrolastic helper springs
Hi all. I'm looking for a supplier that has 2 x NOS 21A1806 (orange band) hydrolastic helper springs.

Ebay has a listing (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/38702107-21A1806-MOLLA-SOSPENSIONE-POSTERIORE-AUSTIN-INNOCENTI-MINI-/171453369476?pt=Ricambi_automobili&hash=item27eb6acc84) but if you look carefully at the image, it is the older 21A1566 springs. :evil:

If anyone knows of a supplier that has a couple hidden away please let me know. I'm not interested in S/H at this time.

I doubt you will find them new. They last went on a car in 1973.
Why not take a good S/H one to a spring maker (yes they are still about) and get a couple made to sample?
I'd be tempted to make them 1/2" shorter than original.

New ones do appear on ebay in the UK quite regularly.
Of course there are no new ones listed today!

Well looks like I've manage to source 2 NOS springs. Just waiting to clear up freight charges. Keep your fingers crossed.

I have one nos and one second hand one which has the same spring rate, as tested against the new one, so it's as good as new. I'm open to serious offers.

John - are you able to post the measured spring rate so others can use it as a comparison when testing their own springs? I don't think this figure is documented anywhere.

I'm interested also. I've had a conversation of line with Mick about measuring my new ones when they arrive and also my old ones. Be interested in the method you used John.

There were 2 different springs used here, later ones 1968-69? on were painted orange. I think these were shorter? Anybody compared both?

The ones I have coming are the later ones which are longer and stiffer (just realized what I typed!), part number 21A1806 (orange ones?). I'll update this forum with my findings.

The springs are nearly here and I have been thinking as to what sort of tension kg or lbs these pull so I can get an appropriate spring scale.

Does anyone have a ballpark figure? :?:

Well the springs finally arrived from Italy and here are some pictures of them: :D

The original 'Export boxes' and bags, notice the Innocenti and Lambretta branding.

The spring length is ~ 19.5cm or 7.7 inches... I guess they are what most people refer as the 8 inch later ones.

Top end. Not having ever pulled out a helper spring before, but it looks like there is some adjustment (pre tension) available?

The bottom end. Notice black banding not orange as per Australia. Not sure on this, maybe Innocenti or UK had different banding. Can anyone shed light on this?

Next step is to profile the tension etc. of these NOS ones, then the old ones when I do the change over. Mick if you read this thread, do you think It should be moved out of the 'Wanted' section?
