Post subject:  Wanted info on NSW Police Brass ID plate and extinguisher

Hi after picking up my ex NSW highway patrol Clubman GT last week I'm keen as pie on returning it to police spec.
Pictures of my car found here:
http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=87372

Would anyone have any information on or a picture of what the police ID tag that goes on the bottom dash rail looks like.

It goes here:

I have no idea What it looks like. So any Information no matter how small or a picture would be greatly appreciated.

Also an extinguisher? What would an extinguisher carried in 1971 have looked like. Here are the holes in my passenger wheel arch where My extinguisher would go. (Would be the same as mk2 S I reckon)

Thanks and looking forward to hopefully someone knowing and helping me out.

Cheers

Pretty sure that it was just an asset number that the police used, it has nothing to do with the factory numbers. My mk2 has the same holes.

Bubba, I can only tell you about the plates from 1982, but things stayed the same in those days. The plate was only a fraction longer than your rivet holes and about half an inch high. Stretching my memory now but I believe the plate was aluminium, silver in colour. There was a 5 digit number hand stamped into ther plate by the Police garage who fitted up the vehicles. Each new car got the next running number. The plates stopped, I'm not sure when, but each new car still gets the next running number today. Back in 1971 the serial numbers could have been 4 digits.

Thanks for that info Dalmeny (you were a policeman at one stage weren't you?)

So from your "sketchy" memory that seems to be going ok.

Was it just all silver and flat like a piece of scrap. or was there a painted border or markings (painted like mini ID plates) or recessed something like a plaque.

Yeah I don't reckon it would have changed much from the early 70's

Surely there must be a picture of one someone has or somebody somehow got one.....

I would love to make a copy for my car when done....

Yeah, just a rectangular piece of flat aluminium, no fancy edges and about 1-2mm thick. And, some bloke smacked a number into them with number punches.

OK Thanks Dalmeny. I have a good idea of what an 80's one looked like now.

I will just keep chasing a picture of one from the early 70's, surely there would be one somewhere.

Cheers

I think they were called commission plates that were fitted upon the vehicles commissioning for service.
Bit of a holy grail to find one. The closest I have been is a guy telling me he bought an S back in the day from the govt auction and it was a brass plate with a number.
Pm winnabey as he is quite the grand poobah of these cop cars!
Please share with us if you find a plate or a pic of one.
