Hello all, I'm having a bit of trouble. Over the last few weeks I've had the engine out so I could give it a good clean up and replace any parts that looked a bit tired and replace any gaskets that we're leaking. I ended up replacing the fuel and water pump, radiator, dizzy, coil pack, leads. The issue I'm having is now it won't start. The battery is new as well and the engine turns over but it seems like there is no spark. I've checked the fuel pump and put new fuel in it and everything is good there. Just wondering what my next step should be? When it comes to the electrical side of things I'm not really sure how to proceed. Anyone got any ideas? Simo |

timing 180 degrees out.... spark is there but not when each cylinder wants it? |

Is the engine back in the car? A simple thing is pull of an ignition lead, use insulated pliers and hold the end near the block/head and have someone crank the engine, if it sparks that's good and means it's a tune (or fuel) issue. |

Yes the Engine is back in the car. How do I adjust the timing? |

You will need to take the rocker cover off, and turn the engine until the engine is at the top of the compression stroke on number 1 cylinder (closest to the radiator, both valves shut at top dead center). Take the dizzy cap off, and the lead will be pointing to where number 1 lead meets the cap. If it does not, adjust your timing until it does. Also check, looking at the cap from the front, the leads should be arranged in 1-3-4-2 anti-clockwise. Once it starts, have your timing light and mirror ready to arrange the timing back precisely to the book setting. |
