Post subject:  Clutch slave Cyl bleeding tips

Just had my master cyls and slave cyl recod. Time is coming for bleeding the clutch slave cyl. Any hints tips or secrets? I noticed they replaced the bleed nipple and it's not a short dumpy one but a long nipple which means the tab for the return spring has the ability to be pulled across and lay over.... Not sure where to find another dumpy short nipple?

The clutch slave is the essiest to bleed by a big margin.
It has easy access and is a simple single point bleed.

Also, it has a very close to 30% fluid change out for every pedal press so continues to bleed itself through use.

I use a jam jar to bleed the slave with a short length of rubber fuel tube which may not be expensive, but is 100% successful.

You might have a problem getting the fluid to move first up, so loosen the top pipe from the master cylinder first and bleed the fluid to the top point first, then tighten and bleed normally after that.

Let it sit for a while from time to time (cup of tea?) to allow suspended air bubbles to gather together out from the fluid. You will waste less fluid.

Cool. Is it prone to having air bubbles stuck in it as the bleed nipple isnt really at the top, but the end...?

Are the original type short dumpy bleed nipples still available?

No, they're very easy to bleed because of the large volume of fluid change out through each stroke. The nipple doesn't seem to cause an issue either.

I would pinch the bleed nipple off your old slave, they will be the same thread. I imagine they might also be the same as your disc brake caliper (?) or if its the thread that's too long you can cut them down and round off the cut with a file to repair the thread.

Cool.

Im still using my original slave cyl. The Brake shop must have turfed the original short nipple. The short one was handy as the clutch return spring bracket was not able to bend over as much as it does with the longer one.

The bleeder is 3/8 unf thread, shouldn't be too hard to find a short one if you are really keen.

Hi Ken, I called into the brake shop who overhauled the slave cyl. They confirmed it was already fitted with P4433 bleed nipple. He did have another 2nd hand one there which was shorter, so I grabbed that. Fitted well, the return spring anchor bracket no longer leans right over now, bled the clutch up no worries last night. Cheers.
