Post subject:  What to do with my 1100S

Ive have my 1100S motor sitting on a pallet since I removed it from my car in about 2011. Its been reconditioned and was wondering would it be suitable for a replacement in a MKI or MKII cooper S.
As I now have no mini and would probably buy a Cooper S in the future, Could this motor be used?

Cheers

A bird in the hand is what I would think, it would take some pressure off reconditioning the Cooper S engine until you could afford it. However it would sell for good coin as well, which is the cost of reconditioning the S engine you will get with the car...

Yes but it'll be obvious it's not orgional if that's what your wondering about.
From memory 1100S engines are rod change and Cooper S's are remote so you may need to swap a couple of under body parts over and you may have an issue with engine stabilisers. Also the reverse light sensor wiring may need to be "extended" from the front of the gearbox to the gear selector if the above is true.
Every thing else should be able to be swapped out or made to look genuine.

Should be a remote gearbox case, i thought. Wait for M1100 to chime in.

If it has the original 1100S gearbox, then the final drive will not necessarily be what you want either.

Has it been recondition since you removed it from the car or was it reconditioned, run and then you removed it? Have you been turning the motor over periodically for the last 3 years to make sure it does not seize?

Makes a difference to its usability and value.

Gearbox was reconditioned with motor and has 3.44 final drive and the whole lot was done once removed from car

No need to worry about final drive...1100S gearbox's don't usually find their way into Mini's...

If you do buy a Cooper with a sad engine, then you have a goer already to plonk in and put the original aside for when you might want to sell...

Yes, with the rubber sandwich type remote housing interface.

Would I need to change the uni thingys. Aren't the cooper S's hardie spicers and 1100s rubber unis?

No there not

Youre diff should have uni joints and the gearbox should be a remote if its out of the mini k you had

1100S is not a rod change gearbox.
1100S sandwich plate change as described, not Cooper S.
1100S box has rubber unis. Very early Cooper S had the same. Other S's had Hardy Spicers.
Other parts will never make an 1100S engine look genuine Cooper S.
