Hi all After the issues with my daughters 850 overheating we would like to fit a temperature gauge, however ! To keep the car looking original I was wondering if anyone has used flat gauges (LCD or similar) that you could fit to the back of the sun visor so they are not normally seen but folded down you can keep track of what's happening to your engine. I have not been able to find a suitable product on the WEB but I'm sure such devices exist. Any ideas ? |

Not quite the answer you're looking for but why not use an oval cooper S/ mini K dash? It wouldn't look out of place, fits straight in over original and would be more user friendly. If you use it you have at least two holes, temp & oil? You could 'trim' the plastic surround at back and it'll go over your original speedo. |

I actually have a 3 gauge housing but we really like the "simple" look of an original 850, hence the question regarding alternate type go gauges. |

Period style Smiths ( black faced / chrome bezelled ) gauges wouldn't look out of place I'm sure , mounted in a chrome holder . |

Yes. Exactly the problem. No indication until you can smell burning oil

Un-fork-an-nate-lee...sometimes (eg a quick lose of coolant) the head is cooked and cracked before you can react

I've been running a pair in my car for about 5 years straight, and I used to have one in the previous car as well. It sneaks under the thermostat top hose and tells me the outlet temperature to a degree. You need to get a small piece of rubber and cut a groove along its width. Lay the wire through this groove. The hose will never conform to make a perfect seal if you don't. I also needed to put a piece of heatshrink over the temp sense end with epoxy inside which cured after the heatshrink shrunk to keep it watertight. The oil temp goes into the back of the oil cooler, next to the inlet with the front fins closed to keep the temp a bit more stable. Its not super-dooper precise for the oil temp from the pump as wind cools the fins a little as you drive, but its only a few degrees off and beats piercing the oil line or sump integrity for my use. Runs on a 3 dollar battery that lasts about 10 months if I don't remember to turn it off.

Are the white (magnolia) faced gauges white/cream or the same as my 850 speedo which is silver or are there silver faced gauges available. |
