I'm rebuilding a remote gearbox and I want to know which brand of COPU I should go for :?: , or should I build my own to save a bit of cash?
Advice and opinions welcome.

Just buy the Minispares one from Karcraft or wherever. Cheap these days.
It would take hours to make one, just not worth the trouble IMO unless you like working for nix.

Note- these new cp pipes fit a rodchange box fine, but need slight bending to avoid the reverse selector fork's arm in remote boxes.
If you don't, the arm will wear thru the filter mesh.

Sorry - slightly off topic but..

How far do you need to dis-assemble a gearbox (4 synchro, rod change) in order to slap a COPU in? Is it something that can be done just after separating the engine from the gearbox, or do layshafts and motion gears need removal?

I've only ever seen it done by removing the laygear, so quite far in. I can't see any reason why you would need to move the 1st or 3rd motion shafts, so if you need to remove the laygear it's not that big a deal. But by the time you're down that far, you might as well replace service/worn gearbox parts.

Yeah the layshaft, then laygear (aka cluster gear) needs to come out, and to get at that, the 3rd motion shaft bearing retainer has to come off followed by the layshaft lock plate. Which may need the speedo drive housing to come off for access to the 4 bolts, if they still have locktabs.
