Afternoon chaps.

I have just rebuilt the diff, replaced the inner pot joints and changed the engine steady bushes.

This did not fix the knocking sound.

I have further investigated the problem and it only happens in first gear.

What have I done ?

Last time I had a `knocking in 1st gear' was in 1967. 3 synchro remote box. I broke the NEW! 1st gear outer ring thru one of the baulk ring cutouts. Genuine BMC part, it had done 1000 miles during run-in only. Broke the 1st time I nailed it off the line. Not happy jan...

this is really starting to grind my gears....... gear box was rebuilt before when the engine was done. i guess it may well have been a new "poor quality" part but still. engine out again dammit dammit dammit.....

Would anyone have a 4 speed synchro box , first gear they could sell me?

Would a 4speed remote housing box parts fit? I have one in the shed is all.

All gears are the same in a 4 synchro remote box, and the common Oz rodchange box, except reverse.

And made sure it's a deep socket too ;) Good to have one in the toolbox, as they are also used for the flywheel and ball joints.
