I currently live in Georgia, USA and have a 1970 Morris Mini Panel Van from New Zealand which I am trying to track down where it came from. It appears that the VIN number is only 9 digits long. Is there a way to track down information using the engine serial number? Any help that can be furnished would be greatly appreciated.

Brett - first step would be to post a picture or two so the exact model can be confirmed. Of most importance is a picture of the ID plate and any other body number stampings. It may have been a locally manufactured car (NZ/Australia) or imported from the UK, or elsewhere.

There has been discussion of Strokernaut's van on his thread the Mini Mania forum; Morris 1100 (aka Catalina Pk) and others have pretty much established that it is an Australian built van.

However, it has an ID plate attached with a strange looking number.
As winabbey says, some pics of any body stampings on the rad shroud or bulkhead would help ID it.

There's an Australian Clubman Mini Van sales brochure here that might help you identify it via the listed features and pictures:

Also, here's the brochure for the Mini K Van.

Yes I thought so Catalina Park, I mean Morris 1100

Just thought I'd post both in case there was other data in the spec part that might be of use as the description of the vehicle to date has been quite vague.

I didn't realise they got the early style grill. Was that always the case?

XAV1 could be a prototype (Xperimental) code. This would tie in if it actually is a 1970 car as Clubby vans did not come along until 1971??

The number afterwards 48*** seems pretty high though.
