so. . Ive pretty much run out of money (like flat broke, negative bank ballance between pay cheques) but I still want my mini on the road badly (lets face it, its still going to be cheaper to drive than the Land rover, and some days taking a motorbike isnt really an option) so Ive been thinking, I have 99% of the parts I need to put the car back together. just some of them are a bit. . . well 'Rough' and the body is more or less in Primer. . . what do people think about throwing it all together and registering it as it is? so basically running in Primer, slightly bent/surface rusty bumpers, hodge podge interior (see other thread about seat covers) yay or nay? This was i at least have a mini on the road. . . . and this build was never going to be a show car anyway, it was only ever to be a daily driver, the money will be spent on my other mini (when funds finally show themselves) I could realistically almost assemble the car in a weekend if I took this approach. . I have a mate who is a mechanic and can advise on what will NEED doing to pass RWC though. Leroy. |

primer paint is hydroscopic will absorb water better off painting it with something watto did the sh***ox wit h spray cans |

I forsee needing a lot of rattle cans though, then ends up costing a lot too. . . maybe I can find somone on here who will spray it in whatever colour they have laying around for a carton? Leroy. |

Do a google search for roller painting cars... You can pick up some cheap paint and get it all in one colour. As long as your surface prep is good and you can put in some elbow grease they can look alright... |

I've done some touch up work on mine using a roller with very minimal prep and it seemed to be alright and if anything better than the previous paint. Can't honestly say how it's held up(haven't really seen the car in 6 months) but will be able to update after the weekend once I see it again. |

One of the guys in 4wd Monthly magazine painted his truck with that 'kill rust' paint you can buy from bunnings. It's primarily used for painting colorbond fences. Can get a few different colours too. Cheers Brad |

Not an option, the 1098 is for a daily, and the 1360 was my first car. If I sold one I'd just have to buy another daily. As the land rover stays as it's for camping but too expensive to drive around town. And the motorbike is for commuting. They are all staying. But I get what you are saying. |

I painted a mini van with house paint once, with a paint brush too. Got it thru rego as well. If you get really stuck I have a compressor and spray gear, you are welcome to borrow it. I even have a little bit of old English White left (a litre or so). Edit: I work in Mt Gravatt so can bring it in one morning if you like. |

Thanks for the offer. I have a compressor and my mate has a decent spray gun. I ave no idea how to paint though. How many litres would I need to paint the car? And where is the cheapest place to buy paint hats sort of a one paint deal. No need for a clear coat after? Leroy |

Are you close to a tafe. Sometimes they run vehicle restoration or painting courses, they might consider helping if you offer them a canvas. MAYBE worth a shot |

MAYBE worth a shot If the tafe near you is anything like tafe in SA good luck, they stopped running those types of courses a long time ago and now only run the cert courses which would probably be a bit over the top. |

There is a really good sticky on here that I followed on how to paint your car. A lot of work but the feeling you get when it's done is immense. I used about 6 litres but some of that was spills, spills, wastage etc. |

You should top coat it for sure. My father inlaw drives an older holden ute as his daily work car, he primed it, then had to start using it before he could top coat it. after about 6 months the primer was ruined, now he will have to sand it down and reprime it before he can top coat it. Doing it with rollers is a cheap option, tho it will take a long time to get a good result This is my mates VN Wagon, he painted it in 2008 with rollers using marine enamel.
