Hello, i'm after a little advice with regards to lead additives and lead substitutes. Is it better to have an additive than a substitute? Eventually is wear inevitable? Just wondering what experiences you guys have had with different kinds and what your opinions are about them. I'm not sure if Australia is the same as the UK with regards to lead additive, it's pretty hard to get hold of and no where near as readily available as substitute. Cheers! |

Flashlube seems to work OK...google it for outlets in WA. I suppose the most important thing you should looking into is air filtration if you have lots of that red stuff around...change your filter/s regularly. |

To be honest I used to run flashlube but after speaking to a few racers and others mini folk who say they have never used any additives I gave up putting it in years ago. |

Flashlube is available in 1L bottles (and bigger) from Supercheap and Autobarn etc, , don't buy the tiny little bottles. I use it because I proved it works. The valves and seats stay shiny. I also proved (as a trial) that if you recut valves and seats in a 202 head for a daily driver, and then use nothing, the seats will be rooted within 12 months. The red hot valves pulled bits of iron out of the head.... in 6 months.

I haven't used it in about 10 years and never had a problem. Flashlube is available at almost every servo so put it in if you feel you need to. |

I would imagine also if your racing the temperatures would be wayyyy different to normal road driving on a standard engine. is a way of checking valve condition without disassembly simply just seeing if the clinker holds good compression? |

you don't need to add lead substitute to Avgas, it already has plenty of lead in it. I use flashlube, when I pulled the head on my car to replace a gasket, valves and seats looked new. |
