Today I made and used a puller to remove these pesky needle bearings.

Have you thought of going into production Kev? You make some really handy stuff.

Mate, I'm now retired, but I share this info so other folks don't run out of expletives getting these mothers out.
I think it was quicker to make this tool than it was to butcher the last 2 bearings out.

Another point I'll make here is IF you find original STEEL grease tubes still in there, KEEP EM!! As the plastic ones you get with the repair kits are all cr@p.

I just slip a steel rod through from the opposite side then weld the end to the bearing cage and then hammer it out from the other side (like a drift/punch).

I used to MIG weld a bolt in there and pull it out, but the tool is much quicker.
They don't weld real good with the grease in the bearing either.

Yeah it wasn't the easy option but it works.

just saw the docs how to... another good tool

the measurements made me wonder whether the standard lifter could be used as the bar stock.... plenty around

(i think .8120 diameter rings the bell)

Nope the lifter is brittle cast iron, and is chill cast (hardened) on the face. No way you will drill it, and it's too big inside anyway.

Just buy an offcut of high tensile steel bar. It's cheap.

Excellent As usual Doc,
In my younger days I used a Loxin tightened it up, then punched or pressed it out
