Ok, today "The Heinz" got its first oil change since we got it and that was back in January, (a bit shameful I know) but we figured throughing more oil into it was the answer. So, today I went and changed the oil in the mini and when I took out the sump plug out little chunks of rubber and also a small woodruff key came out and I don't think that, that is sposed to happen. So I'm a bit worried but apart from a need of a good lil' tune up "The Heinz" is running well. So if anyone knows what it may be then it would be greatly appreciated if they posted. Pat |

Pat, Small rubber chunks would be "Bearing Death" for the crankshaft main bearing oilway holes if they ever got past your filter. (Silastic is good at doing this if you are sloppy), If its congealed oil then not so bad, change the oil and filter and repeat same after a bit of a run. Its normal to have gritty metal "bits" from your gearbox and sometimes the bits (if your gearbox is getting thrashed) are big enough to identify as part of gear teeth. If a genuine woodrif key then its a "foreign body". |

Yeh preety shameful I know but it is done now and yes I did change the filter. I spose that is the effect a servicing center has on you when you work there for a week. but Does anyone know where the woodruff key came from is there one in the engine close to the sump or maybe it has run through the entire engine and scratched everything up real nicely ........ not. Well here is hoping that didn't happen but i n answer to the question I put in some valvoline 15/50 so we'll see how that runs. Pat |

I cant think of a key that could end up in the grabox.... Maybe the cam / crank one was changed in the car and they dropped it ? (Putting in a new one in the process) hmmm they are the only two i know of.. You'd know pretty quick if you were missing one of them! J |

G'Day Jim, Totally agree, if real key then most likely dropped. |

Apparently it has had a mild cam put in it but I am unsure of what it is because in the great words of Bart Simpson "It was like that when I got here" but it runs preety well for a 998cc engine so can't complain Pat |
