Hey all, how would a hydro setup like being repeatedly pumped and deflated to achieve a similar effect to the mini in this vid http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8518 I was thinking that a big enough pump, similar to the ones they use in american lowrider cars with hydralic suspension, it would be able to easily raise and lower a mini, if the hydro "bags" were strong enough to withstand it. Obviosly valves would need to be installed either directly onto the bags or down the lines somewhere. As i dont know much about the hydro suspension on minis, how much height difference is there between a deflated and inflated "bag" sorry to bring up the idea again, but i just cant keep the idea out of the back of my mind and that vid got the wheels turning!. see ya, trent |

There is a place in the UK that does kits to suit minis. In this kit, they replace your aluminium trumpet with a hydraulic ram, which allows you to retain your standard rubber cones for a normal amount of suspension travel. Not sure if they do a kit for wet suspension... Mini Magazine April 2005 has a "How To" article about fitting pimp hydro to minis, with alot of detailed photos. (Page 108 to 110). It shows about 6 or 7 inches travel front and rear. The whole kit takes up the same amount of space as the battery does. The supplier in that article was www.rayvernhydraulics.com - They apparrently supplied and installed the kit for 750 pounds. |

Flat Hydro Bag = resting on the bump stops (the whole weight, not good.) If you don't have bump stops, top suspension arm meets subframe, not good, not good at all!! With much lower hydro pressure, you will have no handling to speak of, and the bumpstops won't last long. If you want to lower it a little, you might get 1/2 an inch before the pressure starts to get too low. My opinion is, don't mess with the hydrolastic setup pressures too much. Hydro bags are getting older and harder to source good ones. Go the Hydraulic rams and rubber cones route. You can even run the hydraulic lines where ther hydro pipes used to go... I don't mind taking those old hydro bags when you pull em out....

Yeah i am looking at that page now...... but dont have a scanner..... sorry. You'll need to see if somebody in your suburb has a copy.... the pics may need to be seen in real life to get all the detail.... |
