hi guys so i bought a mini on ebay last yr and brought it home and when i checked the vin number it appears it was one of the last 50 made, and also an ls, however i it dosen't seem to have any of the special ls stuff. i have spent a bunch of time combing through past posts and there are some discrepancies i have found. so the 1600 dollar question is, will it blend!, sorry i mean is it an LS?
it is red now but original color is metallic blue - i know the 996 ls came in this color but the vin says 1275?
it has the rear demist, extra park and brake lights on the crash pad but no disks, aftermarket 12 inch minilight wheels, steel wheel flares, a 998 motor instead of a 1275 etc. the engine number is 12H902UH0008XX and vin is XNFAD18Y1053XX (last digits omitted for protection from the fbi...) so can anyone steer me in the right direction? also the vin plate matches the numbers stamped in the rad cover. the guy i bought it off as building another one as well so it is possible he stole all the good stuff for the other one not knowing what this one was. grill says s in stead of LS and has no lights in it as well..
so will that all said, help me obi wan ka-mini forum, your my only hope!
The number stamped in the Radiator shroud matches the plate that is next to the fuse box and they are both XNFAD18Y1053xx then it is a 1275LS shell for which a matching 1275 motor would have a 12H902 prefix on it. The original colour should have been nugget gold or hi ho siver and may be shown on a paint placard that should be just to the front of the body plate near the fuse box. This may be missong or painted over as it was stuck on not riveted like the id plate. A good way of checking the colour if the paint placard is missing is to look at the firewall or behind the door cards or on the cabin side of the firewall under the crashpad to see if there is remnants of the original colour. This will depend if the whole colour has been stripped back for the respray.
I wouldn't be too paranoid about the number. We don't have the FBI in oz so if he car isn't stolen then there is not much chance of it causing you trouble. If anyone does steal your number to hide a theft by renumbering a car then Ausmini would be a pretty public way for them to be caught out.
