Was AEG 510 cam standard for MK2 S or was it AEG 542.

AEG510. Pin drive.
Rumour has it the Police Pack Mk2s got a C-AEA800 (731 grind but spider drive) instead.

Thanks Doc as I thought is the number stamped or cast on the cam.

Nope. No numbers.
It is ID'd by 1 raised ring on the body.

That is interesting, Anyone have any info on this, I would love to know, because of all the ex Police Mk2 Cooper S vehicles I have owned and there was a lot of them (over 30 ) I have never seen a spider drive cam fitted, That is not to say it did not happen, but simply that i never seen any fitted to the ex chasers that I have owned.

I agree John, I've never seen one in an S motor either.
But if memory serves correct, the Police Pack SP041? listing says C-AEA800. I always thought they got a pin drive, 731 cam?
Perhaps it was a typo.

The C-AEA800 was introduced fairly late in the scheme of things as it only applied to the Clubman GT, not the MK II Cooper S. That may be why the difference didn't register with those of you who stripped those engines. The change to the 1200 type engine for the Clubman GT would've meant even fewer 9FXEY engines with the spider drive.

How many ex-NSW Police Clubman GT's did you buy, John?

When I pulled the engine apart from my ex police GT many years ago, (1988) eng prefix 1205/10XX it had the above cam installed.

Just to clarify, you mean it had the C-AEA800 camshaft?
