Evening all,

Apart from a few video's etc on Youtube, does anyone know of a detailed history of any of the Bathurst Mini's - or any of the other "important" period Racing Mini's?

Have just started school holidays (the joy of being a teacher) and had our first child a few days ago - so need something I can do quietly whilst keeping an eye on him!

Video or text I'm not fussed!

If not that - then maybe some 'must read' Mini literature that will keep me entertained! If I can't be out enjoying the car, I might as well read about it!

Mini experience (now BMC experience) did an article or series on all the Bathurst minis as far as I can recall. Maybe post this in the BMC experience and maybe watto or someone might point you to the specific edition(s)

Not much there if you concentrate on Oz cars - however, look for Brownings "The Works Minis" if your interest extends to the BMC Factory cars.. And there are a few others that concentrate on the Works team.

Cheers, Ian

The Mini Experience, Issue 4, 20+ pages covering the history of every Mini that raced at Bathurst. Magazine has sold out, but digital version is available (in pdf form) and full digital version will be available on-line some time next year.

As that was written 10 years ago, some more recent information has come up, which has been covered from time to time in The Mini Experience and The BMC Experience. For example, one of the Minis that raced at Bathurst in 1974 turned out to be a Clubman GT, not a Cooper S as had always been believed. That was explained in Issue 5 of The BMC Experience.

We also had a major feature on Peter Manton and all his Minis in Issues 7 and 8 of The Mini Experience, and in Issue 1 of The BMC Experience had a story on one of Manton's Minis that has been recently restored.

An interview with Brian Foley was in Issue 2 of TME and numerous other Mini racers on a regular basis.

We have also followed, in every issue of The BMC Experience (except Issue 6) the restoration of the Cooper S driven by Brian Foley and Paddy Hopkirk at Bathurst in 1967. This should be completed early in 2015.

If it is a DVD you are after, the series The Great Race, by Chevron Marketing has some good Mini footage, most importantly in the DVD on the 1960 to 1966 races. We don't sell it anymore, but see here: http://www.pitstop.net.au/products/bathurst--the-great-race-1960--1966-dvd/.

There is no book on the market, yet, that details the Australian history of the Mini, in racing or on the road. (Except Spotlight On Mini Minor Down Under, but I would neither call that detailed or particularly accurate).

Have a great Christmas break.

Great! Thanks Watto! Looks like I best jump onto your website and do some ordering!

I've got most of the latter mags, but the early ones are missing from my shelf!

Thanks again, enjoy your Christmas!

Yep, it is his ex-Hopkirk/Foley Mini that we are featuring with the restoration.

We also had a feature on his 1974 ex-Bathurst Cooper S in Issue 22 of The Mini Experience, as well as another ex-Bathurst Mini and an ex-Manton/Dunkerton Cooper S, plus a few other race and rally Minis and drivers.

Cheers,
Watto.

Hi thought I would jump in here. I am also in the process of writing a book on the racing history of minis in Aus. At the moment it is still in the interview stages as I am getting around Aus one state at a time to interview as many drivers as possible. It will have a year by year focus on the races obviously touching on each Bathurst.
Will keep everyone posted.
If you want to know specifically about any cars drop me a line. I have tons of info.
Greg

Good to hear...let us know which state you are in (except paralytic!) so that people can possibly open some doors for you :D

I am just finishing wrapping up QLD. I have stalled a little on a couple of important people, then heading south to NSW.
I have asked previously and received good assistance but decided to keep it systematic and do one state at a time. Will give a heads up when chasing NSW people which should be around March.
