Post subject:  Mini Racing Confirmed for East Coast

The resurrection of the old east coast mini challenge is finally a reality. The first round is scheduled for 28th and 29th of March 2015 to be held at Lakeside Park (Formerly Lakeside International Raceway) in Brisbane. The following rounds will tag onto the usual MRA rounds in August at Wakefield Park and then Winton in December.
Classes follow MRA rules with
Class A: Hybrid
Class B: Sports Sedans open i.e. forced induction, crossflow,
Class C: Sports Sedan 5 port iron head
Class D: Group N/ Road registered

This is the first time the series has been run since the 80's and all support would be greatly appreciated. It is a cheap way into motorsport and a great way to resurrect some of the old cars sitting gathering dust.
I am happy to field any queries where possible through the usual PM setup.

Adam Duce has asked me to place this up here to gauge expressions of interest. There are limited grid places to 24. Entries will be available in January, but Adam is trying to get an idea of numbers so we can assist with accommodation, logistics etc. I will post up a flyer in the next day or so with all the details of the first round. For those who are considering dipping your toe in the water, you will require a competition licence either through CAMS or AASA. This takes a little time as they now both require a medical exam and paperwork, so don't leave it till the last minute to get your kit together.

So far we have expressions of interest from
Myself,
David Perkins,
Phil Swinton
Ken Nelson
Adam Duce
Keith Sparks
Chris Adlam
Andrew Bergan

The Doug Byrne memorial race is approaching 20 entries.
It would be great to see some of those Victorians guys
who have been putting cars together of late compete
& if not hopefully in the "east coast " challenge next
year.

This sounds awesome and like a good excuse for me to get back into a race car. Just need to find an old sports sedan to resto... Anyone? :)

Yeah I saw that one. I'd prefer something with hybrid, turbo or at the very least, cross flow history though I reckon

Charlie Borg called me yesterday and is coming up and has room on his truck for another car from NSW as well as Bob Bells car which is yet to be confirmed. I am really looking forward to a great year of close racing. I think I might need to get the crossflow sorted before March although the little five port is going well.

OK guys we have an email which is [email protected]

We will only have a maximum number of 24 cars for the Lakeside round which is the weekend of the 27th, 28th and 29th of March.
We will put together an information pack which will be emailed out to those interested within the next couple of weeks. Please send an expression of interest to the above email and we will forward you the required info as soon as its fine tuned.

Don't leave this till the last minute. You will need either a cams competition licence or you can simply get a licence through Queenslandraceways.com.au but this will still require a medical, just not as detailed as the cams one.

We have been trying to keep the costs down as much as possible, so entry fee is expected to be around $290 but this will be confirmed in your return email within the next couple of weeks.

Entry will be expected to be posted via Queenslandraceways website approx mid February. It will be first in best dressed. It has also been opened up to the BINI's so expect to see some of the ex-MINI challenge cars in attendance.

We hope to make this a big event for the year and set a precedence for the other states to follow. We are inviting the mini clubs to put on a static display and work the event into their calendar, so put it in your diary as an event not to be missed.

"It has also been opened up to the BINIs"
That's a shame but I suppose it's all about numbers on the grid and costs.
