Hi guys, tried searching but cant find anything. Not sure if i just cant use the search function properly but was wondering if i brought a set of 2nd hand disc brakes where would be a good place in syd to take them to be reco'd and fitted?

I would not have a good idea.

You may have good bearings, but shot CVs for example. Save 120 on the bearings perhaps, but cost 200 for the new CVs.

Same goes for all the wear parts on the brakes. Some may be fine, others may be worn out, and prices vary. These are the wear parts on a hub, leaving the Caliper and Hub as basically the only non-wearing part.

Drive Flanges
Bearings
CVs
Discs
Caliper Pistons and Seals
Brake Pads
Ball Joints

If you were to buy all these parts, you could pay 500 bucks before you even factored in labour. or you might just need a set of ball joints for less than 50, but it is not a job that is cut and dried without an inspection. So you will need to have them quoted on.

One of the members here bought a set of 7.5" S brakes a while back from NZ. By the time he and I fixed or replaced everything that was knackered, he could have bought a NEW set here from Karcraft, or imported from UK.

These days I'd just buy new, Mini brakes are cheap as chips compared to any other car.

I went through a similar exercise. I actually bought secondhand brakes from interstate, then started getting costs together to rebuild them. Like Mick and Doc have said, the difference between buying them new (as a set from Karcraft) or reconditioning what I had, was around $200 or less so I sold the s/h ones, and bought the kit from Karcraft. I also knew with the kit that I was going to have everything I needed when came time to fit, as opposed to getting half way though and realising there was a bearing or something missing.

I second buying new. false economy otherwise. You can't fault their courier/customer service either, I've bought and paid for goods by CC in the morning and had them arrive by courier to my work that afternoon!

The new kit from Karcraft is $935 (C-AJJ4028), which is about the same as getting one from the UK at the moment (within $50)
