What would you have to do and roughly what would it cost to make a 1100 go like a 1275 or better?
Obviously you have your force induction options, what else is there?

There is a LOT of options and combinations to get stock 1275 out of a small bore engine.
(1) Keep the std equipment and modify it, like boring it out, port and polish the head, cam, carby, extractors and so on.
(2) Same as above but with a turbo or supercharger, probably with less extreme specs as a n/a engine but more costs.
(3) Head swap along the lines of a 7 or 8 port alloy cross flow head, BMW k1100 or KAD twin cam swap with either carbys or fuel injection.
(4) Do it all.

You can do it but why would you when you can get a 1275?

Cheaper starting price, you can get a complete small bore drivetrain for under $100 compared to $1000 for a 1275. Plus you get bragging rights 8) .

And you don't need disk brakes.

Oh you will need them, they're just not legally required

How much are you going to spend on that 1100 to get it to go like a 1275?
Granted the initial cost of an 1100 is heaps cheaper than a 1275 but the cost of hotting up either engine will be the same. The 1275 is a stronger engine too.
My two cents.

Yes that's all true. Another pro for the small bores is if the engine dose go bang a replacement crank or block is (you guessed it) cheap and their is tones of them around. And if it dose break you haven't killed a 1275 so there's less heartbreak.

Hi TK
My two cents worth, what do you call 1275 power? a std A+ makes about 75hp and 80 ft lb of torque,so we take a 1100cc motor bore it to 68mm grind the cam to my new 266ss profile 1 3/4 su set of maniflow extractors reco the head and bigger inlet valves, you will now more than match your 1275 motor.

Getting back to the 68mm project motor I opened up the inlet port just a little no where near as big as the 295 heads still has std exhaust port and I put a 1 3/4 su on it and it still made 103 hp and 90 ft lb of torque and the down draft weber made a lot more than it did before, it also makes more than a lot of modified 1275 I have had on the dyno, but in fairness I have not tried this cam and weber combination in a 1275 yet. but any mini with 100hp and a 100 ft/lb of torque is a quick little car and to make that out of a small bore now is not that to hard.

so should someone look for any particular small bore 1100 / head / box / dif combination if going down this path for a quick streeter / occasional tracker or is any combination an ok starting point?

Pretty much any std setup will do for a starting point, their isn't any weak or strong small bores.
A four syncro gearbox and a 3.44 through too a 3.6 diff is good gear to rebuild, any 998 or 1098 block will do, either crank will work but obviously the 1098 crank is preferred for cc's (either crank will fit in either engine) and the heads (202) can be modified to 295 specs and more as GR said.

theres a modded 295 head on flea bay at the moment for $350 does that seem reasonable?
