Can anyone tell me if this is a legit ID plate or something someone made up. It doesnt look like a normal BMC one?

Hit with blasting media?

it does look like blasting media as there are a number of lumps and bumps on the stampings now. The font seems ok though...

nasty - I bet the owner was pissed when he saw that... left it on there cos he didn't want to disturb the rivets, but didn't tell the blaster to leave it the f*ck alone...

It looks genuine to me. Just very badly sandblasted.

Despite the destruction of the plate from sandblasting it looks like a BMC original. In my opinion a better scenario than finding a replacement ID plate.

But just because it has a genuine plate doesn't always mean genuine car. Be good to see a car number stamping clearly through the textured bulkhead look. Many other Cooper S body features should be checked to confirm identity before money is exchanged, if a real car is desired. It may be real, but things need checking to remove any doubt. Just saying check before the cheque.

I take it this is from the WA based car for sale? It's now painted opposite to how BMC made it. Going by the ID Plate it left with a white body and burgundy roof.

This car was for sale on Quicksales on 14 November last

After inspecting this car today Im not convinced it is genuine. The seller is not a mini person and is just advertising it for what the badges say. Too many things dont add up on it. Having said that it is still a very nice little car.

The car number seems to correspond with the sequence of paint colours, it is at the end of Burgundy Red (replaced by Spec. Burg. Red) and the start of Snow White. (the car itself is painted wrong!)

I had a play with the contrast and zoom and it appears to have the same lower tail of the other number 2. The engine number fits in perfectly with cars before and after from my list of cars.
I think it is legit but badly sandblasted.

Yes, the engine number fall into the same period as the paint colours.

On the duotone cars, was the first colour listed on the id plate the roof or body colour?

The first colour is the roof colour.
