Hi all, my first post here, long overdue..

I'm hoping you can assist with a question I have about 1978 998LS cars - specifically those produced in Gold, silver and Green just prior to the production of the 1275LS.

As many of you know, the 998LS was mainly produced in the metallic blue colour throughout 1977. In 1978, production of the 998LS continued under new chassis coding XNFAB, and no longer specified "LS" on the chassis plate, in a similar way the 1275LS had the code prefix XNFAD.

There was an extremely small run of 998 LS cars in 1978 that were produced in Nugget Gold, Hi-Ho Silver and Iridium Green. I have done some searching on this forum before posting this of course, and been able to find a bit of discussion about these colours, but no answers about how many were produced exactly. I also don't have access to my edition of the BMC experience on the 998LS, as I'm currently living in Belgium..

A year of so ago, a 998LS gold car came up for sale, with the seller claiming it was one of only ten 998 Gold LS's produced, along with 10 each of the green and silver 998 LS's, which were produced by Leyland as a test run to see how the market responded to those colours prior to launching the 1275LS. My father owns a silver 998 LS, and I have members on my LS facebook fan page who also have green and gold 998 cars, and I'm getting a lot of questions on production numbers of these through the page. I would love to know if people have solid information on the production numbers of these cars. I have been maintaining a LS register with chassis details etc where possible for both 998 and 1275 cars for some time, and I have seen only a few of the gold, silver and green cars come up.
