is something more sinister going on? In the last 5 running hours I've had in order; coil fail, plug failure (ngk), condenser failure (amazing backfires) followed by another plug failure, different cylinder (denso)! Whats going on! Thoughts please! |

Thoughts please! No No , nothing wrong with it , normal mini behavior ![]() Is it ok now , prior to that , was it running ok , had you changed anything in the tuning dept , how long since it has played up , could be just a coincidence that all this just happened to die . |

now my tablet is playing up Arrrgh! When the car is actually running, very smooth and responsive. Torquey and heaps of go. Ive done nothing to it except replace broken electrical stuff. Dont think its heat related... |

EMP from the nuclear bomb. Seriously, It may have been that everything was on its way out and as soon as you replace one thing the next worse thing becomes the problem. |

So am I just having a bad run? Alternator is putting out correct voltage and the coil and plugs were newish (12 months or so, Denso plug a month old).... |

I suggest you just change everything and start again...a shorting condenser may have taken out your coil, but really, just move on...the quality of replacement parts can not be guaranteed these days. |

How can a condenser damage a coil? When a condenser fails the coil does not function properly buy Condenser does not damage coil. |

This is a British designed car, you should never discount even the the weirdest things. ![]() IMO its just normal old car scenario, don't loose any sleep over it. |

It is probably more a case of keep replacing perfectly good parts till you stumble upon the real problem. |

"It is probably more a case of keep replacing perfectly good parts till you stumble upon the real problem". That is easier said than done till in the process you introduce something else that is faulty which complicates things further. It is always best to test and find what is faulty before you take guesses and replace bits. |

Electronic points = no condensor or points ever again, no dwell setting's either... I'll never go back! If you set your dwell incorrectly, it is possible to over heat the coil which will degrade the coil over time, and perhaps the points as well from increased heating through longer charge cycles...they barely support a normal coil as it is without 6 monthly adjustments. A poor spark leads to improper ignition which will soot the plugs too...but maybe you were just unlucky. A clean sweep of the electricals is not a bad thing every once in a while. |

Thanks for all your input. Mick, I think the dwell is fine because the machine is running sweetly and smoothly when there is nothing failing! (points are good). Will keep you posted. Cheers Mikal |
