How can i pump up the suspension on my mini K and what fluid do i use

Yes you can, but you need a pump.
Do a search here for details on making one.

Fluid is `hydrolastic fluid', can get in 4L tins from www.karcraft.com.au or most Mini places. :wink:

It's possible to use 50/50 mix of ethylene glycol & water, but the system needs total draining to do this. Easier to just buy the right stuff.

Ok... thx doc ..do i have to evacuate the system to get all the air out ? cos its been disconnected to replace a unit

The book says yes but in practice most Mini places I've used in the past don't bother any more. Pump it a bit high, blow it down fast by pushing the valve in, then pump it up again. The pressure from the front bag will blow the air (which is in top of front hose) out the back. :wink:

I'd do the other side the same, it gets rid of the cruddy 30 year old fluid... 8)

Manual way is to use a clutch assembly, pedal and master cylinder. need 2 people to pump and fill resevoir

Seen a electric setup using a power steering pump, what was really cool was he then used it to bleed the brakes in a vacuum setup, (submerged extraction)

Mine only needs 1 person, no probs to get the psi needed.

If you really do want to evacuate it, a venturi type vacuum generator will work, pneumetics supply places like Festo or SMC sell them pretty cheap. :wink:

but does anyone know the actual pressure required to pump up the system?

Approximate figures even?
Just thinking of an easier way to pump them up... :wink:

It's in the region of 350psi I believe, so a bicycle pump is going to be hard work. I personally plan to rustle up a master cylinder at the local bone yard & copy the good Dr as much as possible. Sorting out the connectors will be a bit time consuming.

Just a tad over 320 PSI say and let the thing settle over time...rule of thumb is abour 12 inches from front hub center to bottom of plakky chrome strip on guard and about 12.5 on rear on a sedan (or three fingers!).
