Hi guys i have just purchased four sets of chrome side mouldings for my mini from karcraft and seeing as they are aluminium I am having extreme trouble moulding them to my car.I have tried heating them up with heat gun but they still seem to kink.

Any suggestions on how to do it or any suggestions on who could fit them for me?

Thanks

yeah, i'd like to know too. the 'old' ones from years ago seem to go on relatively easy. The 'new' stuff just seem to kink too easy.

Heat them up with a heat gun, and put them on with the curl of the roll going with the curve at the sil, not the curve of the wheel arch.
Make sense??

I have contemplated this problem for some time and will put my thoughts forward for discussion.
The plastic will soften to the point where it is easily formed when heated, however the aluminium that is housed within the strip will not soften therefore it will just bend and kink when it looses the support of the plastic.
My thoughts were that you need to bend to shape by supporting the plastic in much the same way that you bend electrical plastic conduit with a bending spring.
I have considered cutting some strips of aluminium say 10mm x 1.6mm and placing these inside the moulding at the crucial bend points to act as sacrificial support just to achieve the bends.

They are not aluminium, they are plastic, do not use a heat gun, it will ruin them, use a bucket of hot water to warm them up.

Heat gun works fine, probably hair dryer would be better (What I used last time)....

Just be VERY careful as if you heat it too much it wrecks them and they lose shape and bend and you need a new one

Thanks for all the feedback but I have tried heating with both a heat gun and hot water, still having issues. Does anyone just know of a professional that does this so I could get them to do it?

I am located in Sydney thanks.

They're the standard sunshine flares I believe.

Wow, big pictures.....

Wondered if you had group 2 race flairs or something as the chrome is more difficult to fit these.

Chrome should fit those ok though as they are just standard flairs.

So I don't know what going on, hopefully someone nearby can help you out

I think being a bit more specific might help, Sydney is a big place. Maybe mention suburb

JST - Suggest you put your location in your user profile so it appears on each post. :)
